Burglary to Motor Vehicle

On April 7, 2024, Officer Gomez was dispatched to the intersection of Sixth and Sussex Street on a burglary to auto report. Upon arrival, he met with the victim who stated that he observed a Hispanic male enter the passenger seat of his unlocked vehicle which was parked on the street and unoccupied. The suspect was seen rummaging through the interior of his vehicle where $30.00 worth of loose change was stolen. The victim then attempted to stop the suspect, but the suspect ran towards Bergen Street where the victim gave chase. The victim lost sight of the suspect near South 5th and Essex Street. A description of the suspect was given to officers on the road and a canvass of the area provided negative results. Detective Lecca located several cameras in the immediate area and reviewed municipal surveillance video where he obtained photographs of the suspect. The investigation is currently on-going.
