Burglary Arrest in Harrison

On April 8, 2024, at approximately 11:28 AM, police were dispatched to the area of N. 3rd St. and Cross St. for a report of a male party wearing a black hooded jacket, blue mask, and carrying a white bag taking packages off of a porch. Police canvassed the area of N. 3rd St. between Cross St. and Harrison Ave. with negative results. PO Castaneda canvassed the surrounding area of N 3rd St. to Central Ave. PO Castaneda observed a male party matching the suspect description walking over the Clay St. bridge toward the city of Newark later identified as Marco Costa. At this time during the initial interaction with the suspect, PO Castaneda gave the suspect verbal commands to stop walking and that he was being detained for investigative purposes. The suspect stated he was coming from the Town of Harrison and was asked by PO Castaneda to step toward his vehicle to detain the suspect in handcuffs. The suspect was uncooperative and resisted arrest by fleeing into traffic and running away from PO Castaneda. Additional officers arrived on the scene and PO Castaneda made physical contact with the suspect by chasing the suspect and escorting the suspect to the ground. The suspect was placed under arrest. The suspect had a syringe and multiple burglary tools on his person as well as items in his possession from a previously reported burglary earlier in the day. The suspect was fingerprinted, charged and turned over to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
