Two Charged With Sex Offenses Involving Juvenile Victim

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of 67-year-old ELIEZER KOPELOWITZ of Englewood, NJ on charges of sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of gamma hydroxybutyrate, criminal sexual contact, and possession with the intent to use drug paraphernalia; and 59-year-old WAYNE BAMBLING of River Edge, NJ on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact. The arrests were the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the New Milford Police Department under the direction of Chief Brian T. Clancy.

On Friday, April 5, 2024, the New Milford Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Milford Police Department revealed that ELIEZER KOPELOWITZ and WAYNE BAMBLING sexually assaulted a juvenile between the ages of 13 and 17 in New Milford, NJ. KOPELOWITZ was also found to be in possession of gamma hydroxybutyrate and drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation, on April 5, 2024, ELIEZER KOPELOWITZ was charged with second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(4); third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A 2C:24-4a(2); third degree possession of gamma hydroxybutyrate, N.J.S.A 2C:35-10.2a; fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3b; and disorderly persons offense possession of drug paraphernalia, N.J.S.A 2C:36-2a. KOPELOWITZ was arrested in New Milford, NJ and remanded to the Bergen County Jail for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

On April 5, 2024, WAYNE BAMBLING was arrested in New Milford, NJ and charged with third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A 2C:24-4a(2); and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3b. BAMBLING was remanded to the Bergen County Jail for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the New Milford Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
