Garfield, NJ Man Charged With Sexual Assault and Criminal Sexual Contact

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 33-year-old AHMET YUSUF AYDEMIR of Garfield, NJ on charges of sexual assault and criminal sexual contact. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Fair Lawn Police Department under the direction of Chief Glen Cauwels.

On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the Fair Lawn Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged sexual assault of a woman in Fair Lawn, NJ. The alleged assault was reported to have occurred while she was utilizing a ridesharing service. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fair Lawn Police Department revealed that AHMET YUSUF AYDEMIR had sexually assaulted the woman while she was a passenger in his vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, on Thursday, April 4, 2024, AHMET AYDEMIR was arrested in Paramus, NJ and charged with second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A 2C:14-2c(1); and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3b. AYDEMIR was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Fair Lawn Police Department, and the Cliffside Park Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
