West New York, NJ Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Cliffside Park

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ERNESTO LARA-ROJO, 49, of West New York, NJ for attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapon charges as a result of an incident in Cliffside Park, NJ. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Cliffside Park Police Department under the direction of Chief Marc Marano.

On Monday, April 1, 2024, at approximately 4:58 p.m., the Cliffside Park Police Department responded to a report of a domestic violence incident involving serious bodily injury. An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Cliffside Park Police Department revealed that a female victim’s throat was cut with a razor blade by ERNESTO LARA-ROJO. The victim was transported to HMH Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, NJ with life- threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, ERNESTO LARA-ROJO was charged with first-degree attempted murder, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1a(1)/11-3a; second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(12); third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d; and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d. LARA-ROJO is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Cliffside Park Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this investigation.
