Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department announces further criminal charges against Jose Roa, (43), of Elmwood Park, N.J., from an incident that occurred on February 24, 2024. On that date at approximately 12:35 am, Roa was allegedly arrested for driving while intoxicated and found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, containing hollow-point ammunition. It is alleged Roa stated he had a concealed carry permit for the weapon, however, did not have the paperwork with him.

Further investigation determined that Roa was never issued a permit to carry a handgun. He was subsequently charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. On March 4, 2024, Roa turned himself into police headquarters where he was processed and transported to the Essex County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

(Charges are merely allegations until the defendant is proven guilty or pleads guilty in a court of law).
