Arrest Made In Connection With Stabbing In Paterson

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer in Charge Isa Abbassi announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, Anmar Oudah, 35-year-old male from Paterson, New Jersey, was arrested in relation to a stabbing investigation that took place on March 3, 2024, in the area of East Railway Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey. Anmar Oudah is charged with Attempted Murder First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon Second Degree; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose Second Degree.

At approximately 5:00 a.m. on March 3, 2024, members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to the area of East Railway on a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, Paterson police made contact with a 30-year-old male Paterson resident, suffering from a non-fatal stab wound. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey.

The subsequent investigation revealed that Mr. Oudah was responsible for the stabbing. As a result of the investigation, at approximately 6 a.m. Mr. Oudah was arrested by the Paterson Police Department.

The crime of Attempted Murder, first degree, has a sentencing range of 10 to 20 years in prison with a requirement to serve 85% of the sentence before parole eligibility. The crime of third degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose has a sentencing exposure of 3-5 years in prison. The crime of fourth degree Unlawful Possession of a weapon has a sentencing exposure of 18 months in prison.

The State will file a motion for pretrial detention. Criminal complaints are merely accusations. Despite these accusations, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
