Paterson Man Arrested For Homicide In the Area of East 21st Street and 19th Avenue

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Alexander Gutierrez, 46-years old from Paterson, was arrested in connection to a homicide that occurred on February 16, 2024, in the area of East 21st Street and 19th Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey.

Alexander Gutierrez is charged with Murder, first degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, second degree; and Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, second degree.

On Friday, February 16, 2024, at approximately 10:42 p.m., Paterson Police Department Patrol units were advised by a witness that an individual was shot in a residence in the area of East 21st Street and 19th Avenue in Paterson. Officers went to the location and discovered the victim, Logan Gonzalez, a 33-year-old male from Union City, New Jersey, with a gunshot wound to his lower back. The victim was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The subsequent investigation revealed that Alexander Gutierrez possessed a revolver and shot the victim. The State will file a motion for pretrial detention against Alexander Gutierrez that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge on a future date.

The crime of Murder has a sentencing range from a minimum of 30 years up to life imprisonment; the crimes of Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun each have a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years in State Prison.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
