Garfield Man Charged In Connection With Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault In Little Ferry, NJ

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of JOSE MILTON MEJIA-MEJIA (DOB: 06/21/1991; married; unemployed) of 560 Palisade Avenue, Garfield, NJ on charges related to an armed robbery/aggravated assault in Little Ferry, NJ. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Little Ferry Police Department under the direction of Chief James Walters.

On Thursday, December 28, 2023, at approximately 6:03 p.m., officers from the Little Ferry Police Department responded to the area of 19 Harding Place in Little Ferry, NJ on a report of an armed robbery/aggravated assault of an employee of a nearby commercial business. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad also responded, and the ensuing joint investigation determined that the victim was hit in the head with a bat multiple times by one actor. The victim was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and evaluation. The investigation revealed that, prior to the armed robbery and assault, the suspect had slashed the victim’s tires, and during the assault with the bat, the suspect dropped a handgun. Thereafter, a vehicle utilized in connection with the armed robbery/aggravated assault was identified and linked to the suspect, JOSE MILTON MEJIA-MEJIA.

On Thursday, January 11, 2024, BCPO detectives executed multiple search warrants and arrested MEJIA-MEJIA.

JOSE MILTON MEJIA-MEJIA was charged with first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1(a)(1); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon (handgun), N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5(b)(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4(a)(1); third-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b)(2); third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4(d); third-degree theft by unlawful taking, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3(a); fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5(d); and fourth-degree criminal mischief, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-3(a)(1).

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella would like to thank the Little Ferry and Garfield Police Departments for their assistance with the investigation.
