On December 22, 2023, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Police Officers Paul Quinn and Nicholas
Losurdo responded to Birch Hoboken, 92 River St., on reports of a disorderly person. Employees
pointed out a man they say was alarming other patrons inside. He left when asked, but once
outside he attempted to get other people to fight with him. He also attempted to push over a
propane fire tower, which was held up by bystanders. Officers approached the man, later
identified as 22-year-old Erik Mannino of River Vale, on the corner of Newark and River Streets
and spoke with him. He walked away, but moments later, he was involved in a fight outside of
Fat Taco, 32 Newark St. He also knocked over a fire tower when he was told he couldn't go
inside. Sgt. William Collins, Detective Michael Losurdo, and Police Officers Joseph Spano and
Daniel Barron responded. Mannino was placed under arrest, transported to Hoboken Police
Headquarters, and charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was given a copy
of the complaint and a court date and released from custody.
On December 23, 2023, at approximately 2:35 a.m., Police Officers Andrias Bonilla and
Anthony Ingraffia were patrolling the area of Washington and First Streets when they observed a
large crowd forming due to a fight outside of The Shannon, 106 First St. Multiple other units
arrived on the scene for crowd control. It was learned the main aggressor in the fight, later
identified as 24-year-old Stephen Sesko of New York City, hit another man while he was looking
away causing him to fall onto the ground. Sesko had been kicked out of the bar two times earlier
that night. Sesko was arrested and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was charged
with aggravated assault and released from custody.
On December 25, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Police Officers Nicholas Protopapadakis
and Marvin Dejesus responded to Church Towers on reports of a non-domicile male attempting
to gain access into a residential building. They observed a man who fit the description given and
recognized him as 46-year-old Benjmain Brito of Jersey City. Brito had an active warrant out of
Hoboken for criminal mischief. He was placed under arrest, transported to Hoboken Police
Headquarters for processing, and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On December 23, 2023, at approximately 9 p.m., 26-year-old Matthew Van Puten of Brooklyn
was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters by Jersey City Police. Van Puten was wanted in
Hoboken on a summons for making terroristic threats against another man who asked him to
leave his building, while Van Puten was asking him about his energy bill. Police Officer Jessica
Pizanie processed Van Puten on a summons for bail jumping. He was given a new court date and
released from custody.
On December 27, 2023, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Sgt. Adam Colon was patrolling on the 600
block of Sixth Street when he was flagged down by a concerned resident who said a nondomicile male was in the stairwell of his building, taking drugs. Sgt. Colon entered the building
and observed the man, later identified as 56-year-old Henry Carter of Newark preparing CDS to
be ingested. He also saw a silver spoon which contained a white powdery substance suspected to
be CDS, a small glass cylindrical tube with burnt ends, and a small metal "push rod" commonly
used when ingesting CDS. Carter was arrested. Sgt. Christopher LaBruno and Police Officer
David Chicara arrived on scene and transported Carter to Hoboken Police Headquarters where it
was found he had an open warrant from the State of New Jersey. Carter was charged with
possession of CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, and defiant trespassing. He was processed
and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On December 27, 2023, at approximately 8 p.m., Police Officers Anthony Azzoline, Christopher
Barral, and Damien Bates responded to the Hoboken Shelter, 300 Bloomfield St., on reports of a
verbally aggressive male refusing to leave. When they got there, they observed a man the
officers knew to be 33-year-old Issouf Sore of East Orange, in the lobby of the shelter. They also
knew Sore had been banned from the shelter. He was arrested and charged with defiant
trespassing. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed, and released on a
summons.
