North Haledon Chiropractor Arrested For Healthcare Claims Fraud and Failure to Pay Tax

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the arrest of Patrick Capizzi, 69 years old, from North Haledon, New Jersey. Mr. Capizzi was arrested on January 9, 2023, after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit. Mr. Capizzi is charged with one count of second-degree Healthcare Claims Fraud, and one count of third-degree Failure to Pay Tax.

On October 26, 2020, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office received a report of inappropriate billing for services from the chiropractic offices of Patrick Capizzi, located in North Haledon, N.J. The investigation revealed that Capizzi inappropriately submitted insurance claims for services not performed on patients and received payments in the amount of approximately $372,000.00. Further investigation revealed that Capizzi failed to make the appropriate tax payments.

The sentencing exposure on second-degree Healthcare Claims Fraud is five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison, and on third-degree Failure to Pay Tax is three to five years in New Jersey State Prison.

Mr. Capizzi was processed and released and will be appearing in Central Judicial Processing Court within two weeks.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite the accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
