Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Acting Paterson Police Chief Bert Ribeiro
announce that at approximately 2:57 a.m. on February 11th, 2023, Paterson Police were
dispatched to the area of Godwin Avenue and Carroll Street on reports of shots fired. Paterson
Police canvassed the area but did not locate a victim or crime scene. A short while later, a 24-
year-old male Rahway, New Jersey resident, arrived at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center
seeking treatment for a nonfatal gunshot wound. A preliminary investigation revealed that the
shooting occurred in the area of Carroll Street and Godwin Avenue in the Paterson, New Jersey.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. More information will be released once it
becomes available.
