Arrest Made in Conneciton to the May 6 2023 Homicide in Area of East Main Street and Hillman Street

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Calvin King, 47-years old from Paterson, was charged on May 6, 2023 in connection to the homicide which occurred on that same date in the area of East Main Street and Hillman Street in the City of Paterson. Mr. Calvin King was charged with Certain Persons Not To Possess a Weapon, second degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Shotgun, third degree.

On Saturday, May 6, 2023, at approximately 1:14 a.m., patrol officers were flagged down in the area of East Main Street and Hillman Street in Paterson on a report of a man down. Officers found the victim, Kyheem Clark, 34-years-old from Paterson, New Jersey, with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. The subsequent investigation, which is still ongoing, determined that an altercation occurred between the victim and Mr. King at Mr. King’s place of business during which Mr. King shot the victim.

Calvin King is currently in custody at the Bergen County Jail. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pre-trial detention which will be heard by a Superior Court Judge at a date and time to be determined by the Court.

The crime of Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon has a sentencing range from a minimum of 5 years up to 10 years in prison; Unlawful Possession of a Shotgun has a sentencing range of 3 to 5 years in prison.

Criminal complaints are merely accusations. Despite these accusations, the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. More information will be released once it becomes available.
