Roger Palacios
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and City of Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman
announce that following an investigation by the Passaic Police Department, Roger Palacios, 25-
years-old from Passaic, New Jersey, was arrested in relation a shooting that took place on June
18, 2023 in the area of Bergen Street and Fourth Street in Passaic, New Jersey. Roger Palacios is
charged with Aggravated Assault, Second Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Second
Degree; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; and Possession of a
Defaced Firearm, Fourth Degree.
At approximately 9:35 p.m. on June 18, 2023, members of the City of Passaic Police Department
responded to the area of Bergen Street and Fourth Street on reports of a large fight involving
weapons. Upon arrival, police found a potential crime scene, and an eighteen-year-old female
Passaic resident suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound was located nearby. Aid
was immediately rendered to the victim, and she was transported to Saint Joseph’s University
Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey.
Roger Palacios was arrested by a member of the Passaic Police Department in close proximity to
the shooting and was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun.
The sentencing exposure for Roger Palacios on Aggravated Assault, Second Degree, is 5-10
years New Jersey State Prison with 85% of the term to be served before parole eligibility
pursuant to the No Early Release Act, followed by 5-years parole supervision; on Second Degree
Unlawful Possession of a Handgun it is 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison with a minimum
of 42-months to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act; on Second Degree
Possession of Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose it is 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison with
42 months of parole ineligibility pursuant to the Graves Act; and on Possession of a Defaced
Firearm it is 1 year to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
The State has filed a motion for pretrial detention that will be heard by the Honorable Marybel
Mercado-Ramirez on June 22, 2023.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, the defendant is
presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
