Arrest Made in Connection to October 1, 2023, Homicide in the Area of Park Avenue and East 22nd Street in Paterson, NJ

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-InCharge Isa Abbassi announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, John McFadden, 28- years-old from Paterson, was arrested on November 4, 2023, in connection to the homicide that took place on October 1, 2023 in the area of Park Avenue and East 22nd Street in Paterson.

John McFadden is charged with Murder, first degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, second degree; and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, second degree.

On October 1, 2023, at approximately 6:36 a.m., the Paterson Police Department was dispatched to the area of Park Avenue and East 22nd Street in Paterson following a ShotSpotter activation. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Eric Boone, a 34-year-old male from Paterson, lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that John McFadden was the shooter.

John McFadden currently awaits his first appearance at Central Judicial Processing. The State will file a motion for pretrial detention against Mr. McFadden which will be heard by a Superior Court judge at a date and time to be determined by the court.

The crime of Murder has a sentencing range from a minimum of 30 years up to life imprisonment; the crimes of Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun each have a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years in prison.
