Posted Fri, Mar 17, 2023, From Hudson County Prosecutor's Office
On March 16, 2023, Issa Almaet, age 41, of Jersey City was arrested by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit following an investigation that determined he submitted a fraudulent insurance claim for a vehicle involved in a motor vehicle collision.

Almaet is charged with one count of Insurance Fraud in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-4.6a, a third-degree crime. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City on Thursday, March 16, 2023 and released pending his first court appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court which is tentatively scheduled for March 23, 2023.

The investigation determined that Almaet filed a claim with GEICO falsely claiming that the damage sustained by a 2014 Jeep Cherokee occurred after an insurance policy was purchased but knowingly concealing that the damage occurred in a collision before the policy was purchased. Prosecutor Suarez credited members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit with the investigation and arrest.

The above charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
