Man Sentenced for 2021 Fatal Stabbing

On Friday, June 9, 2023, the Honorable Vincent Militello, J.S.C. sentenced Steven Bardsley, 57, to 18 years in New Jersey State Prison for the 2021 stabbing death of Steven Bochman, 54, in Jersey City.

Bardsley, of Jersey City, pleaded guilty to one count of Aggravated Manslaughter in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-4a on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. The sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act. The State was represented in this matter by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Andrew Baginski.

On Saturday, July 24, 2021, just after 10 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 151 Cambridge Avenue where they found a lifeless adult male victim – later identified as Steven Bochman – with a stab wound to the neck. The victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:20 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner Office Determined the Cause of Death to be a Stab Wound to the Neck and the Manner to be Homicide.
