Union City Woman Arrested by Insurance Fraud Unit

On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit arrested a Union City woman following an investigation into unlawful payments of medical benefits.

Nicole Sanders, 47, is charged with Theft by Deception in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-4, a crime of the third degree, and False Reporting to Medicaid in violation of N.J.S.A. 30:4d-17b(2), a crime of the third degree. She was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released on a summons pending her first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 8, 2023. The investigation found Sanders failed to report income from a business she owns, resulting in an unlawful payment of more than $70,000 in medical benefits from NJ FamilyCare between 2017 and 2021.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud and Special Investigation Units and the New Jersey Office of the State Comptroller’s Office with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
