On Thursday, August 17, 2023, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with a Jersey City collision that seriously injured another driver.

Patrick Gapasin, of Jersey City, is charged with Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1) and Assault by Auto in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(1). He was arrested at his residence and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

On Sunday, January 22, 2023, at approximately 7:55 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a collision in the area of Routes 1 and 9 and Sip Avenue. Upon arrival, responding officers located two vehicles – a Honda Accord operated by a 60-year-old Jersey City man and an Infinity Q60 operated by Gapasin – with heavy damage. Both drivers were transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. The 60-year-old driver suffered multiple serious injuries. The investigation found Gapasin was traveling north on Routes 1 and 9 at a high rate of speed when his vehicle collided with the Honda Accord at the Sip Avenue intersection.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
