Man Charged in West New York Hit-and-Run

On Friday, November 3, 2023, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a bicyclist in West New York.

Jason Flores, of West New York, is charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1, a crime of the third degree and Endangering an Injured Person in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a, a crime of the third degree. He was arrested at the Hudson County Correctional Facility where he was being detained on an unrelated matter.

On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at approximately 12:20 p.m., the West New York Police Department was notified of an electric bicyclist struck in the area of 50th Street and Bergenline Avenue. Responding officers located a 33-year-old North Bergen woman with serious injuries. She was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where she was treated for injuries that were not considered life threatening. The striking vehicle, later identified as an Acura MDX operated by Flores, did not remain at the scene.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
