Collision Unit Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Route 440 and Danforth Avenue. Upon arrival, responding officers located the lifeless body of a female – later identified as Billiah Mogusu, 58, of Jersey City – near the intersection. She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

During the preliminary investigation, it was determined the victim had been struck by multiple vehicles, many of which remained at the scene. The initial striking vehicle is not believed to have remained at the scene. The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is actively investigating this matter with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
