Man Arrested in Connection with Hit-and-Run Accident in Morristown

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Morristown Police Chief Darnell Richardson announce the arrest of Jermaine Edwards, age 51, of Morristown, in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Morristown.

At approximately 9:01 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023, Morristown Police officers were alerted to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the area of Lafayette Avenue and Lackawanna Place. Officers identified a male victim to have been struck by a motor vehicle that then fled the area. The male victim was deceased. Further investigation has revealed that Jermaine Edwards was operating the vehicle that struck the victim and then fled the scene.

As a result of the investigation, Edwards was charged with one count of second degree Leaving the Scene of Accident Resulting in Death. Edwards was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.

Numerous law enforcement agencies have participated in the investigation, including members of the Morristown Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until he is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
