Hoboken Police Arrest Blotter Nov 02 to Nov 11

On November 2, 2023, at approximately 6 a.m., Police Officers Michael Straten and Andrias Bonilla responded to CVS, 59 Washington St., on reports of a known shoplifter entering the store and employees requesting he be removed from the property. Upon arrival they located the man, identified as 35-year-old Jonathan Berkery of Hoboken, and observed an object concealed under his jacket. The object was a Bluetooth speaker, worth $24.99. As officers attempted to arrest him, Berkery resisted. Officers Keven De La Cruz and Bianca Arroyo arrived to assist. Berkery was handcuffed and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest, and trespassing and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On November 2, 2023, Police Officers Jonathan Figueroa and Elias Colon responded to Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington St., on reports of a man who pulled down a flag from the front of the building. When they arrived, a security officer pointed out a man, later identified as 30-year-old John White of Hoboken, who a city employee saw tampering with the flagpole and taking the Israeli flag off the pole. White was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with theft. He was given a summons and a court date and released from police custody.

On November 2, 2023, at approximately 6:10 p.m., Police Officer Brandon Fitzgibbons responded to the 100 block of Jackson Street on reports an attempted vehicle theft. Police Officer Damien Bates, Ricky Truppner, and Rose Kannan were also dispatched to the scene. The investigation revealed that a man, identified as 57-year-old Charles Hill of Jersey City, got into a running tow truck while the driver was finishing a job for AAA, and started driving away. He stopped and got out, after driving approximately 100 feet. Hill was arrested for theft of movable property and transported to Police Headquarters where he was processed. He was then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On November 4, 2023, at approximately 10 a.m., Police Officers Nathaniel Arocho and Jesse Castellano responded to the 100 block of Washington Street on reports of an assault. The victim told officers a woman, later identified as 41-yearold Nicole Watkins of Hoboken, was shouting at no one in particular, but later threw a chocolate bar at the victim, hitting her in the head. Witnesses pointed out Watkins, who was walking across the street. When officers approached her, she first ignored their calls to stop. When she did eventually stop, she raised her voice at the officers and then tried to walk away again. She was placed under arrest and charged with obstructing the administration of a governmental function, aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a weapon. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and a warrant check found an outstanding warrant from Jersey City and another from Hudson County. She was also wanted by Pocono Mountain Police. Watkins was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On November 4, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Police Officers Ramon Calderon and Chelsa Tamborra responded to Hoboken University Medical Center, 308 Willow Ave., on reports of CDS found on a patient. Upon arrival, a nurse gave the officers a plastic bag containing a white wax fold, commonly used to contain CDS heroin and said it was found in the sock of 50-year-old Kelly Gama of Hoboken. Officer Kyle Seper was also on scene and arrested Gama. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On November 5, 2023, at approximately 12 p.m. Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officer Jessica Pizane reported to Hoboken University Medical Center, 303 Willow Ave, where 33-year-old Anthony Joyce of Jersey City was on prisoner watch by the Weehawken Police Department. Joyce was wanted in Hoboken for two shoplifting cases including one on September 9, 2023, at Walgreens, 1320 Shipyard Ln., where approximately $2,095 worth of merchandise was taken. That report was taken by Police Officers Nathaniel Arocho and Jason Montalvo. Joyce was also wanted for shoplifting on September 10, 2023, at CVS, 59 Washington St., where store managers say multiple items totaling $1,622.45 were stolen. That report was taken by Police Officer Joseph Lupo. Follow-up investigation by Det. Fabian Quinones identified Joyce as the actor in both cases. On November 5, he was processed on both Hoboken warrants and left in the custody of Weehawken Police Officers who were to transport him to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On November 6, 2023, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Police Officer Damian Bates was at Hoboken University Medical Center on a separate investigation, when he was approached by an EMT who reported an unwanted sexual contact in which a person she was transporting, later identified as 64-year-old Edwardo Ramos of Hoboken, touched her inappropriately. Det. Sgt. William Collins also responded. Ramos was arrested and charged with criminal sexual contact. Ramos was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed, served a complaint, and released.

On November 6, 2023, at approximately 1 p.m., Police Officers Anthony Olivera and Michael Aviles responded to the 100 block of Washington Street on reports of a suspicious man inside a building. While investigating that scene, another call came in for reports of a man, matching the description given earlier, on the 200 block of Court Street. Officers located a man who fit the description and knew him to be 29-year-old Oshane Mcleoan of Cambria Heights, NY. The caller told officers he had let Mcleoan into his home to use the bathroom, but called police when he wouldn’t leave and began touching himself inappropriately. He was placed under arrest and a search incident to arrest found him in possession of a bag, cash boxes containing $5,625, bar cards, and mail which belonged to Green Rock Tap & Grill, 70 Hudson St. He was also in possession of an iPad, keys, mail, and a license plate from Tennessee. Mcleoan was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing. In the processing room, he removed all his clothing and urinated on the floor. He refused to be fingerprinted and photographed. It was later learned the license plate was taken from a vehicle which was also burglarized, and the contents were in his possession. He was charged with criminal sexual contact, burglary, and receiving stolen property. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On November 7, 2023, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Police Officer Christopher Soto and Nicholas Protopapadakis were driving on the 50 block of Monroe Street, when they observed a man inside a gated vestibule, kneeling over a backpack and rummaging through it. They approached the man, who they knew as 33-year-old Gregory Freitas of Hoboken. It was learned there was a warrant for Freitas out of West New York for theft. A search incident to arrest found him in possession of seven credit cards that did not belong to him, a cylindrical glass pipe with white powdery residue commonly used to smoke CDS crack cocaine, and 10 capsules suspected to contain CDS crack cocaine. Freitas was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing and charged with theft and unlawful use of credit cards, possession of drug paraphernalia, and defiant trespassing. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On November 7, 2023, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Police Officers Paul Quinn and Chelsea Tamborra were on patrol in Church Square Park near the area of Fifth Street and Park Avenue when they were approached by a witness who saw a man near the dog run inappropriately touching himself. Officer Quinn approached the area and observed the man masturbating on a bench. He was identified as 43-yearold Damont Dyer of Hoboken and was found to have an active warrant for aggravated assault. Police Officers Anthony Azzoline and Harry Montalvo arrived on the scene. Dyer was arrested and a search incident to arrest located a glass cylinder pipe with copper mesh stuffed on one end and a black rod, commonly used to inhale CDS. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed on the assault warrant out of Hudson County, and further charged with lewdness and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dyer was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
