Hoboken Police Arrest Blotter Oct 05 – Oct 12

On October 5, 2023, at approximately 8:35 a.m., Police Officers Joshua Campoverde and Shawn Sodora were patrolling on the 50 block of Madison Street when they observed a man they knew to be 28-year-old AJ Smith who had an outstanding warrant out of Jersey City. They placed him under arrest and transported him to the Jersey City Police Department.

On October 5, 2023, at approximately 1:35 p.m., Police Officers Michael Aviles and Rose Kanan responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., for reports of a shoplifting. Store security had stopped a man and woman, who paid for only part of their groceries, and tried to leave without paying for $387.42 worth of merchandise. The investigation found the woman, who the officers identified as 40-year-old Jesenia Lanzo of Hoboken, rang up the items without paying at selfcheckout. She was arrested for shoplifting and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where she was processed and released on a summons.

On October 5, 2023, at approximately 3 p.m., Police Officers Joshua Campoverde and Shawn Sodora responded to Walgreens, 101 Washington St., on reports of a man that staff wanted escorted out. When they arrived, they located the man, identified as 38-year-old Christopher Johnson of Jersey City, in possession of numerous bottles of deodorant and soap worth a total of approximately $152.82. He was arrested for shoplifting and criminal trespassing. Johnson was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing, and later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On October 6, 2023, at approximately 2 a.m., Sgt. Luke Zeszotarski responded to the area of Newark and Clinton Streets on reports of a vehicle striking a building. When he arrived, Sgt. Zeszotarski observed that the vehicle had driven through a CitiBike docking station, dislodging one of the bikes and hitting a tree, causing the tree to fall onto the sidewalk. When he approached the driver, identified as 23-year-old Mahagany Lewis of Hoboken, he detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage. The Sargeant conducted a standardized field sobriety test, after which Lewis was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with reckless driving and criminal mischief. As per John’s Law, she was released into the custody of a responsible party.

On October 6th, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Police Officers Harold Milne and Mark Mooreman responded to CVS, 201 14th St., on reports of a man threatening store employees. When they arrived, employees told them the man had just fled but they were able to provide a photo of the man. It was learned that the suspect walked in, began yelling, and claimed he was the owner of the store. He then removed a headband from the display rack. When an employee told him he could not do that, he approached her and threatened to kill her. He proceeded to then threaten and insult customers, threatening to physically attack one of them. At approximately 11:15 p.m., Sgt. Roary Miller observed a man, matching the description at the suspect on the 200 block of 14th Street. Sgt. Miller, Sgt. Francis McCourt, and Officer Mooreman approached the man and arrested him. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he refused to provide his identity and be fingerprinted. Det. Fabian Quinones and Lt. David Olivera were able to identify him as 56-year-old Patrick Murphy of Hoboken. He was arrested and charged with robbery, making terroristic threats, and refusal to be fingerprinted. It was discovered he was wanted on numerous warrants including three from Hoboken, two from Union City, and one from Weehawken. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On October 7, 2023, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Police Officers Michael Straten, Christopher Soto, and Remy Garcia-Marte were walking south on the 200 block of Washington Street when they heard a man screaming. The man, later identified as 28-year-old Conner Cummings of Hoboken, had his shirt off and was screaming at a group of people standing outside. Cummings was observed to have a cut on his lip, but he did not answer officers' questions asking for an account of what occurred. Cummings displayed irate behavior toward officers, and Hoboken Ambulance Corps volunteers, who arrived to assist. Sgt. Luke Zeszotarski arrived and he, along with the officers, informed Cummings he was acting in a disorderly manner. Police Officers Enrico Gnassi and Nicholas Protopapadakis arrived on the scene. Officers attempted to get Cummings to provide information, or to accept medical attention, but he refused. As police officers walked away, he continued to yell at them and then entered the street causing a hazardous condition. Later in the evening, the officers saw Cummings again and he again approached them aggressively. Cummings was then arrested. During transport to Hoboken Police Headquarters, Cummings intentionally smashed his face into the radio car's partition. At police headquarters, he declined medical treatment by the Hoboken Ambulance Corps again. He was charged with disorderly conduct. After the arrest processing was complete, Cummings was transported to a local hospital, where he was later released.

On October 7, 2023, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Police Officers Harold Milne and Mark Mooreman responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting. Upon arrival, store security had the actor, identified as 48-year-old Diamond Groom of Jersey City, in custody after observing her ringing up only a portion of the items in her cart, and then attempting to leave with approximately $412.78 in items that were not paid for. Groom was arrested and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where she was charged with shoplifting. She was found to have open warrants out of Paramus and Jersey City and she was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On October 8, 2023, at approximately 1:25 a.m., Police Officers Kyle Seper and Shawn Sodora responded to Hoboken Police Headquarters to process the arrest of 28-year-old Sherif Saad Abouzid of Jersey City for making terroristic threats. Abouzid was at Hoboken University Medical Center, 308 Willow Ave., when he became verbally abusive and combative, threatening multiple employees saying he would shoot or punch them. Sgt. Dennis Figueroa placed Abouzid under arrest and transported him to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was charged with making terroristic threats and released on a summons.

On October 8, 2023, at approximately 5:20 a.m., Hoboken Police Officers Kyle Seper and Shawn Sodora were patrolling Hudson Street on foot, when they observed a man enter a property on the 300 block. They heard and saw the man in the nook of the ground floor unit, rummaging through items. They approached him and placed him under arrest. The officers found an empty sneaker box, and observed the man, who provided an incorrect name, wearing the sneakers described on the empty box. The man was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was identified as 29-year-old Oshane McLeoan of Cambria Heights, NY. Officers located a small transparent plastic bag containing a clear rocky-like substance of suspected CDS methamphetamine. During processing, McLeoan tried to drink hand sanitizer, became combative, punched a wall, and refused to be fingerprinted. At one point, he knelt to the ground and hit his head on a bench. McLeoan was charged with burglary, theft, disorderly person, possession of CDS, hindering apprehension, giving false information, possession of drug paraphernalia, and refusal to provide fingerprints. He was given a summons and released from custody.

On October 8, 2023, at approximately 7:10 p.m., Police Officer Anthony Azzoline responded to Walgreens, 101 Washington St., on reports of a man who was previously banned from the store, refusing to leave. Sgt. Francis McCourt was also on scene. Upon arrival, they observed the man, identified as 38-year-old Chrstopher Johnson of Jersey City. It was discovered Johnson had an outstanding warrant out of Hoboken for shoplifting and defiant trespassing at the same store, issued the day before. Police Officer Damien Bates took that report, and found Johnson took $202.35 worth of soap without paying. A search incident to arrest found a single wax fold of suspected CDS. Johnson was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with possession and defiant trespassing. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On October 8, 2023, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Sgt. Francis McCourt, and Police Officers Damien Bates and Mark Mooreman responded to Natural Plus, 97 Washington St., on reports of a shoplifting and physical altercation. A store employee told the officers he witnessed a man, later identified as 23-year-old Raffaelle Spadavecchia of Hoboken, take two bouquets of flowers from an outside area and walk away. When the employee approached him to take back the flowers there was a physical altercation. Spadavecchia was arrested for shoplifting, transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing, and released on a summons.

On October 8, 2023, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Police Officers Shelby Seickendick and Harry Montalvo were stopped at a traffic light at First and River Streets when they observed numerous people running out of Metropolis Bar, 96 River St. They saw a shattered window and a security guard holding down a man, later identified as 31-year-old Seth Darwish of Prospect Park. Sgt. Dennis Figueroa, and Police Officers Damien Bates, Anthony Hochstadter, and Dominick Allegretta arrived on scene. The investigation revealed that Darwish purposefully punched the window as he was being escorted out of the bar. The damage was estimated at $2,200. Darwish was treated on scene by the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps and then taken to Hoboken University Medical Center for treatment of injuries received when he smashed the window. He was charged with criminal mischief, issued a summons, and released from custody.

On October 9, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Police Officer Jessica Arebalo was patrolling the area of Third and Bloomfield Streets when she observed a woman she knew to be 25-yearold Kayla Moreno of Jersey City who had an active warrant from the Hudson County Sheriff's Department. Police Officers David Chicara and Joshua Campoverde arrived on scene. Moreno was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and then to the Hudson County Sherrif Department to be processed.

On October 10, 2023, at approximately 8:05 p.m., Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officers Samuel Flores and David Allegretta responded to the 500 block of First Street on reports of a road rage incident. The investigation revealed that 40-year-old Tiffany Accor of Irvington was driving a commuter van for Stevens Institute of Technology when another vehicle cut her off. Accor followed the other driver and used her high beams to try to get the other driver to pull over. When the other driver was stopped at a red light, Accor exited her vehicle, yelled at the other driver, and then used her fist to shatter the rear windshield. She then followed the other driver, who parked and ran into a store where the driver called the police. Accor was transported to police headquarters and charged with criminal mischief. She was issued a summons and released from custody.

On October 11, 2023, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Lt. David Olivera, Sgt. Saverio Binetti, and Police Officers Marc Lombardi and Daniela Simone responded to CVS, 59 Washington St., on reports of a shoplifting. When they arrived, a manager told them a man, who had since left, was a known shoplifter and has been advised to not enter the store. The officers located the man across the street, and he was identified as 35-year-old Jonathan Berkery of Hoboken. He was found to have outstanding warrants out of Hoboken for possession, interference with transportation, and simple assault. He was arrested on the warrants and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On October 12, 2023, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officers Samuel Flores and Ramon Calderon responded to the 300 block of Jackson Street to meet with a representative of another agency. During the meeting it was discovered 47-year-old Muhammad Gonzalez of Hoboken had several open warrants for his arrest. He was arrested, processed, and transported to Hudson County Correctional Facility on original charges of criminal mischief and defiant trespassing.

On October 12, 2023, at approximately 8:05 a.m., Police Officers Roberto Cuevas and Nathaniel Arocho responded to the area of Fourth Street and Sinatra Drive on reports of an inappropriate touching incident. Sgt. Dennis Figueora took a description of the suspect, from the female victim who said he had touched her buttocks. Officers Cuevas and Arocho, along with Lt. James Peck, observed a man who fit the description in Pier C Park and ordered him to stop multiple times. They identified the man as 40-yar-old Reynaldo Blackman, no known address, and he was placed under arrest. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with criminal sexual contact. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
