East Orange Senior Center To Be Renamed in Honor of Bowser Family

October 2, 2023, East Orange, NJ: On Thursday, October 5, 2023, Mayor Ted R. Green and the East Orange City Council, in collaboration with the Division of Senior Services, will host a Building Renaming Ceremony for the Bowser Family Senior Center. The current East Orange Senior Center, which serves the senior residents of East Orange with a number of diverse services, is located at 90 Halsted Street. The event will honor the impactful legacy of the Bowser Family, whose presence in East Orange dates back to the late 1800s as one of the city’s oldest African-American families.

“East Orange is experiencing a modern-day renaissance that was nurtured through the commitment, talent, wisdom and creativity of members of the Bowser Family, all of whom played a significant role in the evolution of our great city,” said Mayor Green. “It is with great pride that we honor their longstanding legacy in our city.”
