September 29, 2023, East Orange, NJ: Following the success of Extra Supermarket located at 563 Central Avenue in East Orange, NJ, the owners of this longtime family-owned grocery store are proud to announce that a second Extra Supermarket will soon be opening at 80 Central Avenue (intersection of South Grove Street and Central Avenue) in East Orange.

The 11,000-square-foot space, previously home to Rite Aid, will offer a fresh exterior look and an ideal shopping experience for customers. The supermarket will offer a wide selection of international and imported products including, but not limited to, Jamaican, Haitian, West Indian, West African, Hispanic, and many other cultures. Like their three other locations in Newark, Maplewood and Dover, Extra will offer a variety of produce, a wide selection of meat, and the freshest seafood.

“Our vision and purpose are to create a supermarket that provides affordable food options for the average working family. Extra Supermarket is similar to many other grocery stores with one great and noticeable exception — we are focused on providing international products to meet the community's needs,” said Kayla Chaviano, marketing manager for Extra Supermarkets. “The combination of these attributes, along with great customer service and a knowledgeable staff, has allowed Extra Supermarket to be the first stop and premier location for many local customers.”

Extra stores have one of the greatest selections of imported and international products in the region, making it a perfect match for East Orange, home to one of the largest and most diverse Caribbean American populations in the nation.

“Our city is a huge melting pot of diverse cultures and ethnicities that influence the day-to-day experiences of living in East Orange,” said Mayor Ted R. Green. “Extra Supermarket has been a wonderful community partner over the years and a prime destination for anyone seeking to replicate the traditional and unique flavors of ‘back home.’ But most importantly, Extra has also invested in our local economy by providing jobs for East Orange residents. I am excited about the opening of the second store which will further expand job opportunities and access to fresh foods for people in East Orange and surrounding communities.”

In preparation for the store opening in Fall 2023, Extra Supermarket is currently recruiting local residents for employment as department managers, cashiers, and supervisors.
