Jersey City Resident Arrested for Shoplifting at Target

Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Dominique Wheeler-Weaver (37) of Jersey City, NJ for shoplifting on September 4, 2023. On that date at approximately 9:28 pm, officers were dispatched to the store for a report of a shoplifter being detained by Target security.

Officer Kevin Chen investigated and observed video footage of Wheeler-Weaver allegedly pushing a shopping cart full of items into the self-checkout area. It is further alleged that Wheeler-Weaver did not scan all the items in the cart, only paying for some. Wheeler-Weaver was stopped and detained by security after leaving the self-checkout and attempting to leave the store. The total value of unpaid merchandise was $309.91.

While on scene, it is alleged that Wheeler-Weaver initially provided a false name to the officers. A legitimate identification was made later when Wheeler-Weaver’s credentials were located concealed on her person.

Wheeler-Weaver was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. It was at this time several warrants were located in her name. She was subsequently charged with shoplifting and hindering her own apprehension. Wheeler-Weaver was then transported to the Essex County Jail pending an initial appearance.
