Kearny, NJ – Mayor Alberto Santos visited Dr. Patton’s 3rd Grade at Garfield School and the North Hudson Community Action Corporation Head Start/Early Head Start Kindergarten and Pre-K class in celebration of Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’s 118th birthday. Read Across America Day, celebrated annually March 2nd, is a time to engage children in reading and recognize the value of literacy in our community. As part of the reading program, elementary schools in Kearny have celebrated throughout the week with character dress-up days, themed events, and visits from special guests, such as Mayor Santos, who read “Soccer Star” by Mina Javaherbin, “Fox In Socks” and “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr. Seuss. Mayor Santos commented, “It was fun reading, talking, and laughing with the children.” The literacy awareness effort calls for children in the community to celebrate reading on the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.
