Guttenberg Police Blotter - July 24th, 2023 to July 30th, 2023

1. On July 25th, 2023, during a motor vehicle stop, the Guttenberg Police Department arrested 23-year-old Carlos A. Gomez-German, of North Bergen, NJ. During the motor vehicle stop, officers uncovered that Mr. Gomez-German had an active criminal warrant out of North Bergen. The North Bergen Police Department was then contacted, at which point they responded to our police headquarters and took custody of Mr. Gomez-German.

2. On July 26th, 2023, during a motor vehicle stop, the Guttenberg Police Department arrested 44-year-old Jeffrey M. Marangi, of Tequesta, FL. As a result of the on-scene investigation, Mr. Marangi was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance [2C:35-10A(1)], possession of prescription legend drugs without a prescription [2C:35- 10.5E(1)], and the possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia [2C:36-2A]. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Marangi was issued his complaint summons and then released from custody.

3. On July 26th, 2023, during a motor vehicle stop, the Guttenberg Police Department arrested 52-year-old Elias Marte, of Jersey City, NJ. As a result of the on-scene investigation, Mr. Marte was charged with the possession of five or more prescription legend drugs [2C:35-10.5E(2)], exhibiting a false government document [2C:21-2.1C], possession of a false government document [2C:21-2.1D], hindering his own apprehension [2C:29-3B(1)], tampering with public records or information [2C:28-7A(2)], failure to make lawful disposition [2C:35-10C], and possession of a controlled dangerous substance [2C:35-10A(1)]. Additionally, during the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Mr. Marte had active warrants out of New York, South Dakota, and Florida. As a result, Mr. Marte was also charged with three (3) counts of being a fugitive from justice [2A:160-10]. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Marte was issued his complaint warrants and lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.

4. On July 26th, 2023, the Clifton Police Department contacted our agency, informing us that they had detained 28-yearold Gabriel A. Aguirre Almendare, of Rutherford, NJ, for an active warrant out of our jurisdiction. Mr. Aguirre Almendare was arrested by the Clifton Police Department and transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for arrest processing. At the Guttenberg Police Department, Mr. Aguirre Almendare was able to post bail in the amount of $550.00. He was then released on his own recognizance, pending his new court appearance.

5. On July 27th, 2023, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to Insure One Insurance, located at 6913 Bergenline Avenue, for a report of an unknown individual trespassing on the property. Officers made entry into the storefront and eventually located 24-year-old Walter A. Ortiz-Portillo hiding in the establishment’s basement. Mr. Ortiz-Portillo was arrested and charged with defiant trespass [2C:18-3B]. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Ortiz-Portillo was issued his complaint summons and released from police custody.

6. On July 29th, 2023, during a motor vehicle stop, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division arrested 33-year-old Nordys Fernandez-Lobaina, of West New York, NJ, for driving while intoxicated [39:4-50] and for possessing a false government document [2C:21-2.1D]. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. FernandezLobaina was issued various summons for traffic violations, one complaint summons and then released from police custody.

7. On July 29th, 2023, the Guttenberg Police Department received a call requesting that our agency check the well-being of a male party who was said to be sleeping in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division responded and located the male inside a car, asleep. As the result of their on-scene investigation, 33-year-old Juan J. Chajon-Chitay, of West New York, NJ, was arrested for driving while intoxicated [39:4- 50]. After the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Chajon-Chitay was issued various summons for traffic violations and then released from police custody.

The charges above are merely accusations. Every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty in a court of law.
