Millburn Police Press Release April 13, 2023 Update

Case Update April 13, 2023

On February 10, 2023, at 8:07 am, Millburn Police Officer Marone responded to Millburn Ave near Locust Avenue on a report of theft from a person. The victim reported that an unknown black male with dreadlocks and dark clothing approached her and stole her purse. When she told him to stop, he slapped her in the face and ran to a waiting vehicle, which fled the area eastbound on Millburn Ave. Detectives Royce and DeRosa later discovered that the suspect vehicle was a 2021 Kia Sportage, stolen out of Newark and recovered in East Orange. Royce and DeRosa conducted a lengthy investigation, resulting in the arrest of Davante Andrews, age 18, of Irvington, on March 14, 2023 and Najaquan Baker, age 19, of East Orange. Andrews was charged with robbery, receiving stolen property, and three counts of forgery. Baker was charged with receiving stolen property and forgery. Both suspects were remanded to Essex County Correctional Facility.

On January 30, 2023 at 7:01 am, Millburn Police Officer Dalakian responded to a Merrywood Lane residence on a report of a suspicious parked vehicle. The investigation revealed that the grey 2020 Kia Sportage was reported stolen out of Newark. While canvassing the area, officers were alerted to another residence with two stolen vehicles. The investigation revealed that at 2:17 am, three actors attempted to enter the vehicles and when they found the vehicles locked, they located an open window in the rear of the residence. They entered the residence, located the keys, and then stole a 2021 Infiniti QX8 and a 2020 BMW 530. Detectives Royce and DeRosa conducted a lengthy investigation identifying the actors from the above case as well as two others. Davante Andrews, age 18, of Irvington, Najaquan Baker, age 19, of East Orange, and a juvenile male, age 15, of Irvington. Andrews was charged with 13 total counts including burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and forgery. Baker was charged with 16 total counts of burglary and theft charges. Both suspects were remanded to Essex County Correctional Facility. The juvenile was charged with delinquency and released to a family member.

On March 3, 2023, at 4:14 am Millburn Police Officer Crawn responded to Monterey Village Apartments on Millburn Ave for a report of theft of a vehicle. The owner reported that their 2019 Hyundia SUV was stolen after 1130 pm. The vehicle was recovered in Newark. Detectives Royce and DeRosa conducted a lengthy investigation identifying the actors from the above cases as well. Davante Andrews, age 18, of Irvington, Kashire Hayes, age 18, of Newark, and a juvenile male, age 15, of Irvington. Andrews and Hayes were both charged theft, conspiracy and use of a juvenile. Both suspects were remanded to Essex County Correctional Facility. The juvenile was charged with delinquency and released to a family member.

On March 3, 2023, at 1:00 pm Millburn Police Officer Larcom took a report of burglary to auto at a Walnut Ave residence. Detectives Royce and DeRosa conducted a lengthy investigation identifying the actors from the above cases as well. Davante Andrews, age 18, of Irvington, Kashire Hayes, age 18, of Newark, and a juvenile male, age 15, of Irvington. Andrews and Hayes were both charged burglary, conspiracy and use of a juvenile. Both suspects were remanded to Essex County Correctional Facility. The juvenile was charged with delinquency and released to a family member.

These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty in a court of law.
