On May 16, 2023 at 05:21 PM, Millburn Police Detective DeRosa located a stolen 2021 Kia sedan out of
Newark traveling on Wyoming Ave near Cypress St. Detective DeRosa attempted to stop the vehicle but
the vehicle eluded him. Detective DeRosa pursued the vehicle onto Milton St where it became disabled.
The three occupants from the Kia bailed out and ran behind a residence on Milton St. Detective DeRosa
engaged in a foot pursuit with the Driver of the stolen vehicle and apprehended him in the Maplewood
Country Club, a juvenile male, age 14 of Newark. A short time later Detective Mendelsohn and Officer
Matos apprehended the front seat passenger, a juvenile, age 15, of Newark. The police were unable to
locate the third occupant. The driver was charged with juvenile delinquency for eluding, resisting arrest,
receiving stolen property, and related offenses. He was remanded to Essex County Youth Correctional
Facility. The passenger was charged with juvenile delinquency for receiving stolen property, obstruction,
and resisting arrest and released to his parents.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or
are found guilty in a court of law.
