Case Update May 31,203

On May 23, 2023 at 1220 am, Millburn Police Officer Bifano responded to multiple Exeter rd residences on a report of attempted burglaries to motor vehicles. The reporting person stated that three actors dressed in dark clothing attempted to enter multiple vehicles at three different residents in the same immediate area. The suspects were unsuccessful at any thefts and ran back to a suspect vehicle a black Mercedes Benz suv, and fled the area. Several minutes later the suspect vehicle was located traveling east on south Orange Ave by Officer Wichelns .The vehicle was a black Mercedes Benz GLC, which was previously stolen out of Livingston. Officer Wichelns attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle fled north on Cherry lane. Wichelns pursued the vehicle but had to terminate due to safety concerns. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On May 23, 2023, at 8:30 pm Millburn Police Officer Lyons responded to a Deerfield road residence on a report of a burglary to the residence. The resident reported that video showed at 07:27 pm three actors arrived in a white Porsche, one of the suspects entered the residence through an unlocked side door. The actor stole two wallets and the keys to a BMW X5 which was parked in the driveway. He then exited the residence and met up with the other two actors who then stole the parked BMW. The males then fled in the stolen vehicle. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau

On May 24, 2023 at 11:36 am, Millburn Police Detective DeRosa and Officer Matos located a stolen vehicle traveling east on South Orange Ave. The vehicle was a stolen 2021 Range Rover. Detective DeRosa attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle fled. DeRosa and Officer Matos pursued the vehicle north on JFK Parkway, but shortly after had to terminate due to safety concerns. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On May 25, 2023, at 5:27 pm Officer Seebohm responded to Playa Bowls at 329 Millburn Ave on a report of an unhappy customer that had purposely damage the store cash register. Playa Bowls employee stated that a customer made an online order and picked up the order. The customer then came back to the store several times because he was unhappy with his order, due to it not having enough bananas. The customer was explained the process for a refund. At this time the customer became irate and picked up the stores cash register and slammed it to the ground breaking the cash register. The male then left the store. Officer Seebohm and Detective Rebelo investigated this incident and were able to identify the male customer as Jomaine Cicero (age 38) out of East Orange, who was later charged with criminal mischief.

On May 26, 2023, at 4:00 pm, Millburn Police Officer Kelly and Officer Ford responded to Chanel at the Mall at Short Hills for a report of a shoplifting theft that just occurred. Chanel associates reported that a female (age 54), later identified as Chauyi Wu, out of Montvale, had concealed a Chanel necklace valued at $1800.00 and left the store without paying. Officer Matos and Ford were able to locate this female walking out of Nordstrom’s .WU was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting, she was later released on her own recognizance.

On May 28, 2023, at 3:45 pm, Millburn Police Officer Jezewski responded to Sunglass Hut at the Mall at Short Hills on a report of a shoplifting that just occurred. Sunglass Hut associates reported that a male, later identified as Jorge Martinez, age 58, of Paterson, had concealed a pair of Gucci sunglasses valued at $550.and left the store without paying. Officer Griffin and Officer Reid located the suspect in Swarovski .Martinez was then placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting. He was later released on his own recognizance.

On May 29, 2023, at 6:50 am Officer Dalakian responded to Ocean Street in Millburn on a report of a suspicious male walking down driveways and looking through people’s garbage. Officer Dalakian located the suspect Russel Harnew, age 38, of Freehold NJ. A record check of Harnew was completed that revealed that he had an active warrant for $2,500.00 for his arrest out of Cinnaminson. He was placed under arrest. He was searched incident to arrest that revealed heroin and drug paraphernalia. Harnew was charged with possession of CDS and drug paraphernalia. He was later released on his own recognizance.

On May 29, 2023 at 7:24 pm, Millburn Police Officer Reid located a stolen vehicle traveling West on South Orange Ave. The vehicle was a stolen 2021 Jeep Wrangler stolen out of Belmar. Officer Reid attempted to stop the vehicle on White Oak Ridge road and the vehicle fled. Officer Reid pursued the vehicle east on Great Hills Road to Old Short Hills Road South, but shortly after had to terminate due to safety concerns. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On May 30, 2023 at 3:00 am Millburn police Officer Lyons and Officer Wichelns responded to the Short Hills Hilton on a report of two actors in a white Penske truck involved in the theft of cooking oil from the rear of the Hilton. The Officers located the White Penske truck traveling north on JFK parkway in conducted a motor vehicle stop. The investigation led to the arrest of Jaquqn Hatcher (31) of Newark and Karon Sledge (35) of East Orange. They both were charged with Theft of movable property and conspiracy and released on their own recognizance.

These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty in a court of law.
