Case Update July 11, 2023
On July 4, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Marone responded to a Hobart Ave residence on a report of
burglary to a vehicle. The owner reported that someone entered his unlocked GMC Acadia and stole a
pair of Gucci sunglasses, value $400. This occurred sometime overnight. This incident remains under
investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
On July 5 2023, at 2:52 pm, Millburn Police Officer Seebohm responded to Kings Supermarket on Morris
Ave on a report of a theft that just occurred. Kings manager reported that one of his customers was
loading groceries into her vehicle, when an unknown person walked away with her shopping cart which
had her purse still in it. The purse contained her wallet, cellphone and keys to her residence. This
incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
On July 5, 2023 at 10:00 pm Millburn Police Officer Goldfarb was stopped at the traffic light at Millburn
Ave and route 124, when he was approached by the Walgreens manager, who reported that two
females had just shoplifted from his store and left in a black Cadillac. Officer Goldfarb stopped the
suspect vehicle. The investigation led to the arrest of two Juvenile females from Newark. They were
later released to their parents.
On July 6, 2023, at 1:58 pm, Millburn Police Officer Zonn responded to Ralph Lauren Polo at the Mall at
Short Hills for a report of theft. Ralph Lauren asset protection manager associates reported that
employee Thadeus Benoit, age 18, of Newark conducted fraudulent credit card charges by using
multiple customer’s credit cards without their permission, totaling over $10,587.00 and also stole
merchandise, value $10,189.00. The investigation led to the arrest of Thadeus Benoit, who was charged
with shoplifting, two counts of credit card fraud and credit card theft. He was later released on his own
recognizance.
On July 6, 2023 at 5:30 pm Millburn Police Officer Matos stopped a 2010 Chevy Equinox at The Short
Hills mall for motor vehicle violations. The driver Marlon Bataperez, age 21, of Union City was unable to
provide a driver’s license or proof of insurance for the vehicle. Officer Matos then observed in plain
view, an antishoplifting device (commonly known as a booster bag). Search of the vehicle recovered
stolen merchandise from Neiman Marcus (stolen Louboutin bag valued at $1225.00. This investigation
led to the arrest of Marlon Bataperex for two counts of receiving stolen property and shoplifting, along
with several motor vehicle summons. The vehicle was impounded. Bataperez was later released on his
own recognizance.
On July 7, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Griffin responded to a Gucci at the Mall at Short Hills for a report
of theft that occurred on July 5. Gucci associates reported that they have video that shows a Hispanic
male that selected a pair of Gucci shoes (valued at $1,100) to try them on. After trying on the shoes, he
concealed them in a Neiman Marcus shopping bag, and left the store without paying. This incident is
under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
On July 8, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Manuyag responded to Millburn Municipal lot 12 on a report of
burglary to a vehicle. The owner reported that sometime between 2:05 pm and 3:50 pm an unknown
actor entered her parked vehicle, a 2021 Landrover, and stole her Chanel handbag valued at $6,000. The
bag contained her Driver’s license and credit cards. This incident is under investigation by the Millburn
Police Detective Bureau.
On July 9, 2023 at 4:00 pm, Millburn Police Officer Jezewski stopped a 2013 Buick sedan on Morris Ave
for motor vehicle violations. The investigation led to the arrest of Aliayah Smith, age 22, of Newark, NJ
for an open warrant out of Newark. Smith was transported to Millburn Police HQ and later released on
his own recognizance, by Newark PD.
On July 10, 2023, at 2:00 pm, Millburn Police responded to a Farley road residence on a report of a
burglary to a vehicle. The homeowner reported that she left the garage door open, and it was apparent
that someone entered their Alfa Romeo wagon parked in the garage. A witness stated he observed two
males leaving the garage, wearing dark clothing and masks. The males then fled to an awaiting a white
Mercedes Benz sedan. There was nothing missing from the garage or vehicle. Several minutes later the
same suspects arrived at a Western drive residence and attempted to burglarize a parked Rangrover.
They were scared off by homeowner and fled in the white Mercedes Benz. Millburn Police Officer Ford
and Officer Matos located the suspect vehicle traveling on south on Highland Ave, a check of the
registration revealed that it was stolen out of Union. Officer Matos attempted to pursue the suspect
vehicle east on Route 124, but had to terminate due to safety concerns. This incident remains under
investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
On July 11, 2023 at 04:15 am, Millburn Police Officer Bifano located a stolen vehicle traveling south on
Old Short Hills Rd. The vehicle was a stolen 2020 Mercedes Benz, stolen out of union. The vehicle is
wanted by multiple jurisdictions for burglaries. Officer Bifano attempted to stop the vehicle and the
vehicle fled. Officer Bifano pursued the vehicle south on Old Short Hills Rd, but shortly after had to
terminate due to safety concerns. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police
Detective Bureau.
On July 10, 2023, at 3:26 pm, Millburn Police responded to a Fielding Road residence on a report of Mail
theft. The homeowner reported that she reviewed ring camera footage and saw a Hispanic female
carrying a young child walking down her driveway, up to the mailbox, and then stole one letter out of
the mailbox. She then left the area. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police
Detective Bureau.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or
are found guilty in a court of law.
