Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Manuel Heredia (53), of Caldwell, NJ following a motor vehicle crash on May 30, 2023. On that date at approximately 6:23 pm, officers were dispatched to Passaic Ave. and Greenbrook Road for a motor vehicle crash. Officer Luca Catania responded and during his investigation, he spoke with the parties involved. Officer Catania observed Heredia, the driver of one of the vehicles, to be exhibiting signs and symptoms consistent with someone who may be under the influence, to include bloodshot and watery eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Heredia’s breath.

Based on the totality of the circumstance, field sobriety testing was conducted, and Heredia was subsequently placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. The vehicle was impounded pursuant to New Jersey law. Heredia was transported to headquarters for processing where breath samples were provided for testing purposes. It is alleged Heredia’s blood alcohol concentration was found to be double the legal limit.

In addition to being charged with driving while intoxicated, Heredia received several additional motor vehicle summonses. Heredia was later released pending a June 8, 2023 appearance at the Fairfield Municipal Court.

(The charges against Heredia are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.)
