Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Jesus Torres (42), of Bridgeport, Connecticut, for driving while intoxicated on July 15, 2023. On that date at approximately 3:04 hours, Corporal David Lagan was patrolling the lot of 30 Two Bridges Road when he came across a vehicle improperly parked and running. Officer Vincent Purcell also arrived on scene. The officers noted the driver (Torres) and only occupant appeared to be sleeping in the vehicle and they could see that the vehicle was still in drive.

After several attempts, the officers were able to get Torres to respond to them and put the vehicle into park. While speaking with Torres, it is alleged that his eyes were bloodshot and watery and his eyelids were droopy. It is also alleged that officer Purcell detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Torres’ breath.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, field sobriety testing was conducted, and Torres was subsequently placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. The vehicle was impounded per New Jersey law. Torres was transported to headquarters for processing. It is alleged that Torres’ blood alcohol concentration was found to be more than double the legal limit.

In addition to being charged with driving while intoxicated, Torres was issued a summons for careless driving. Torres was later released pending a July 27, 2023 appearance at the Fairfield Municipal Court.

(Charges are merely allegations until the defendant is proven guilty or pleads guilty in a court of law).
