Fairfield (NJ) - The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Kellie Yu (53) of West Caldwell, NJ for driving while intoxicated on July 23, 2023. On that date Officer Ryan Cleary was on patrol on Route 46 West when he observed a white Toyota Venza allegedly commit several motor vehicle violations. Officer Cleary conducted a motor vehicle stop and found Yu to be the driver and only occupant.

While speaking with Yu, Officer Cleary allegedly observed signs and symptoms consistent with someone who may be under the influence. This included bloodshot eyes, slow movements and the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from inside the vehicle.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, field sobriety testing was conducted, and Yu was subsequently placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. The vehicle was impounded per New Jersey law. Yu was transported to headquarters for processing. It is alleged that Yu refused to provide breath samples for testing purposes, which is required in the State of New Jersey. In addition to driving while intoxicated, Yu was also charged with refusal to submit to breath testing and several other motor vehicle violations. Yu was later released pending an initial appearance at the Fairfield Municipal Court on August 10, 2023.

(Charges are merely allegations until the defendant is proven guilty or pleads guilty in a court of law).
