Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Anibal Burga (33) of Hawthorne, NJ for shoplifting on July 26, 2023. On that date, the police department received a call from Target stating they had a person detained for shoplifting. Burga used the self-checkout to pay for his purchase, however he allegedly failed to ring up everything in both carts. Burga then walked past all the other points of sale and was detained by Target security prior to exiting the store. The value of the items that were not paid for totaled $350.00.

It is further alleged that, while speaking with officers, Burga, provided a false name of Rodrigo Burga, in an attempt to hide his identity. Officer Frank Patierno investigated further and discovered his true identity using New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicle Commission records.

Burga was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing, where he was charged with shoplifting and hindering his own apprehension. Burga was later transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility pending an initial court appearance.

(Charges are merely allegations until the defendant is proven guilty or pleads guilty in a court of law).
